As a former Jewish Single Mom, B"H, and a past participant in the Bais Chana Jewish Single Mom's program, I can say firsthand what a treasure this program is!

I truly believe that divorce and single motherhood is an experience that G-d has decided for some of us, for whatever reason, to help us grow and achieve our full potential as women, as mothers and as contributors in society. Of course no one wants to be a single mom - it’s not easy and the more children you have, the more pressure it can be. While the pleasure of raising children without interference has it’s benefits, shouldering the burden alone is an enormous challenge - financially, emotionally, physically, mentally and socially. Friends, family and community can be great sources of support, but everyone has their own lives to live and ultimately you are alone on this journey.

The only people who really ‘get it’ are those who are or have walked in your shoes - women who know exactly what you’re going through, have had the same experiences and feelings and can empathize with you and provide support and often great ideas to help you stay positive and moving in a good direction.

Bais Chana provides a wonderful, loving, caring environment where, for a brief period of time, single moms get a reprieve, fully and completely. An oasis in time to be with other people in their situation and strengthen themselves spiritually, mentally, physically and emotionally. The classes are designed specifically for both chizuk (comfort and support) and practical knowledge. The food is healthy and nutritious. The activities ignite creativity and the networking revitalizes single moms socially, a critical component given they tend to isolate.

Women come away from these events with a strong sense of community, a plan for action and the assurance that they can do this and be successful.

What a great mitzvah for the Bais Chana team to provide for these women. Single jewish moms are still Jewish moms - they have an enormously important role to play as they are the ladies who are raising the next generation of Jewish souls - it is incumbent to work together to help them be strong and get through it and do our part to support Klal Yisroel.

Some people want to judge these ladies...It is not our job to judge - there is only one G-d who knows why people are in a certain situation. No one knows what another person has been through and why they are meant to be there - that is way above our pay grade. Our job is to love our fellow as ourself. G-d forbid you find yourselves in such a situation, you would want your fellows to love and support you and to help you fulfil your purpose as the mothers who are tasked with raising the future Jewish Nation.
