Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity
Sigma Alpha Mu, known by most as Sammy's, is one of the 3 jewish fraternities at the University of Illinois. Although we are a classic fraternity in many aspects, our bond with the jewish community is what sets us apart from others. For many young jews who go to college, their religion gets lost and put aside when their lives become infiltrated with constant pressure to do well both socially and in school. At Sammy's though, Judaism remains central to our core values for one reason only: Rabbi Dovid and the Illini Chabad. The Chabad has an exceptional way of making judaism relevant to the men of our fraternity whether they be conservative, reform, or non-religious. They make holidays and traditions that many of us considered boring growing up something that we actually look forwards to and can relate to. The most important thing that Rabbi Dovid and the Chabad does for us is not necessarily about understanding and following the Jewish religion; but rather giving us a network and a family that we know we can always count on for anything. Each and every one of us knows that if there is any adverse situation going on in our lives at any time, we can call the Rabbi and he will be there in a heartbeat, 24/7. For us young adults who are constantly stressed and still figuring our lives out, words can't describe how much we value and appreciate this resource - it gives us comfort even when we're not consciously thinking about it.
What many people don't understand is that the Illini Chabad is 100% donor based. Without support from people like you, it could not exist. With the goal of the campaign being $100,000, the Sammy's team has set our goal at $25,000, meaning we must raise $12,500. This is not a limit to how much we can raise, but rather a goal that we hope to surpass. The sky is the limit though - you help decide how much we can raise.
